Preventive Dental Hygiene
Routine oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Interlake Dental Centre in Selkirk can help you prevent any dental issues and keep your smile healthy.
Oral Examinations
Ideally twice a year, you'll visit your dentist for a routine oral exam. This provides them the opportunity to spot any oral health issues and develop a plan to treat them accordingly.
During this exam, your dentist will closely check the health of your gums, teeth, jaw and bite. Exams may also include an oral cancer screening, dental x-rays, and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
Oral Cancer Screening
Any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues can become impacted by oral cancer. During your exam, your dentist will check your face, lips, neck, tongue, throat, gums and tissues for any signs of oral cancer which are difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Keeping your smile healthy between dental appointments is vital to your oral health. Remember to brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes each time. Floss at least once a day.
Hygiene Cleaning
The deep cleaning is a critical component of your oral exam. Your dental hygienist will perform this important task either before or after your exam to prevent and treat disease on your teeth and gums.
To start, a scaler will be used to eliminate any tartar and plaque buildup. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any remaining plaque or stains. This will be followed with a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
Are you or your child at high risk of tooth decay? Your dentist may recommend a fluoride treatment. This natural mineral can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
